Data centres

Confidential Projects for Small and Large organisations

New data centres which are located in various countries. These facilities are located in refurbished buildings and new warehouses.

Data centres and server rooms are critical components of IT infrastructure, but they also pose potential fire hazards due to the presence of electronic equipment, power distribution systems, cooling systems, and other factors.

The key considerations are:

  1. Security measures

  2. Electrical and battery fires

  3. Heat generation from systems which can lead to overheating without adequate cooling systems or poor cable management

  4. Dust accumulation especially in cooling fans and ventilation systems

To mitigate these fire risks, data centres and server rooms should implement a range of safety measures, like

  • Adequate compartmentation and means of escape

  • Installation of fire detection and suppression systems specifically designed for data centres

  • Sufficient distance from the boundary wall or external walls to have fire resistance

  • Determining the electrical load on the rest of the systems in the event of a fire / incident. This is to ensure that that the rest of the building is operational in the event of a fire in a compartment.

  • Adequate ventilation for battery rooms and shutting down of ventilation for areas with hypoxic suppression systems
