Mining + Minerals

Confidential Mining site & processing facility

Lead fire engineer for sulphur and phosphate mining and processing engineering project. The project was valued at $7 billion and was located over 2 major sites. This included the open-pit mine, processing plant facility, refining facility, storage facility, explosives storage and water bore wells.

Input was provided for the following

  1. Bankable Feasibility Study

  2. FEED packages

  3. Tendering for the project

  4. EPC packages including project management

In addition, a site-wide fire safety philosophy and basis of design for the project was prepared.

Coordination of the design and specification of the fire protection systems. This involved coordinating with specialist teams in different time zones like Australia, UK and US.

Assessment of the design of the fire water ring main and accuracy of hydraulic calculations. This was like designing the fire water ring main for two (highly combustible) cities located in a region with water scarcity. So the firefighting water storage tank had to be calculated to be as realistic as possible.
